breaking news: simon & schuster bow to huck finn pressure

in the shadow of the latest editing of huckleberry finn to remove the "n" word, simon & schuster has quietly re-released snooki's new novel, a shore thing, having edited out the words "bitch" and "ass", as well as the "c" word. as a result, the book is now being sold as a pamphlet, available at the check-out lines of targeted jersey shore riteaids and walgreens.

Couldn't we just remove the word snooki from the American lexicon instead?

And as for that “n” thing …Sure, go ahead and shame it out of current literature and speech, but we can’t censor speech or erase the past (nor should we.) Jeeze, we could replace all those swastikas in the WWII books with clovers too, but all that would do is pave another lane onto that path of ignorance this country’s travelin’ down. Path? Christ, it’s turning into a superhighway!

your point is well taken. quite honestly randy, i don't get it. i don't know the details and probably should, but the outcome just sounds nuts. I'd be hard pressed to come up with any cogent argument in favor of censoring a classic like that (or any literature for that matter).

While we're at it, why don't we just edit out the word "Jesus" from the Bible. It's considered profane when used out of context.

The whole world has turned into a band of babbling buffoons...one of the many reasons I spend four hours a day with my horses and the rest of the time with my cat.

pam get off your high horse, we need those nuts for without them life will be pretty boring and for F#$$% sake people stop sugar coating things, they were called "n" at the time, yes its offensive but at the time it was the thing, you remove it and the whole shit will just end up repeating its self and do we really want to see that hatred again.

but then again maybe people want the whole cycle to repeat itself.

People won’t learn anything from history if they refuse to face it. Mark Twain’s writing reflected that era’s values, good and bad.

Trying to change history is only doing kids and adults a disservice. You miss the whole point of the intent of the book by erasing one word. Cleaning up history, even for children, just leads to a whole new generation that will idealize our past and glorify things that were truly evil in our nation.

Censorship is a two-way street. Our freedoms are being slowly taken away; not even being able to read classic writings without someone reinventing it for political correctness is appallingly wrong.

I'm writing my own view of this for my blog, so stay tuned.

you're all taking this WAY too seriously!

Snooki's not the brightest bulb in the box and the fact that her vocabulary is littered with, "bitch", "ass", "c", "GTL", "gorilla" and whatever other word she has created proves this.

Just laugh it off and know that the world is doomed because this generation will one day rule the world :)

supermom,
I highly recommend you read Fahrenheit 451, it's the most disturbing book I've ever read in my life.

If this is where the world is headed, then we are doomed, and it's no laughing matter IMHO.

History does indeed repeat itself simply because people don't read about history and learn from it.

Please NO editing!!!
