when you're up to your eyeballs in quicksand, it's tough to be an optimist.

at least that's how i feel these days.
what, with the tea party just looming like ozone before a lightning strike.
is it really possible that this last long breath of white privilege and self-pity, most of it used to sustain glenn beck's mouth runnin', will suck the oxygen out of all of us.
i don't know.
it seems likely given the trajectory were on.
i mean let's face it.
this is a house divided.
for some time now.
but it seems dangerously divided these days.
like we might need a new mason-dixon line (or a couple) to carve up this bad boy.

well, one thing we can all agree on: these are some tough days for optimists, of any flavor.
and to be funny to boot?
downright impossible.

bob,
I think you should go to the Stewart/Colbert rallies in DC on October 30th. It might do your outlook good. I wish I could.

Re the Tea Party -did you know it stands for Taxed Enough Already- kinda ironic doncha think? I want to hear them stand up and say "I'm willing to cut veterans' benefits" or "I'm willing to cut Medicare or Social Security benefits" or "I'm willing to see these taxes go up."

Anyway, a vote for one of them is a vote for the Dems. Independents and "thoughtful Repubs" (there is such a thing!) will not vote for someone like Palin or O'Donnell.

On the other hand, maybe the Repubs should take control again. They made this mess, let them clean it up. We can move to Canada with lightly.

Think of it this way Bob, the faster we sink the sooner our feet will hit bottom, (and with the help of the tea party crowd we’re sinking at record speed.) So let’s all just hold our breath, bend our knees, and when we feel our feet touch bottom (which should be sometime between 7:00am and 8:00pm on November 2nd) let’s all push like hell; like our lives depend on it (because they do) …and when our collective heads pop up out of the muck we’ll take a deep breath and prepare to do it again, and again, until either we evolve longer legs, or the tea party followers evolve larger brains, whichever comes first.
Or maybe with a little luck, this modern day Dodo Bird we call the Tea Party will follow it’s predecessors into extinction. How’s that for optimism?
