571. a thoughtful graduation present

i thought long and hard about the perfect graduation present for my son, now that he has finally completed his education—a masters in statistics.

what gift would use his newly acquired math skills.
what gift would give him an opportunity to deal with the same kinds of misfits one finds in a corporate office.
what gift would teach him the simple lesson that life decisions are a gamble.

and after all the dust had settled, it was clear what to do: a $400 seat in a $75,000 texas hold'em tournament in atlantic city—stats, gambling, misfits.
however, i have to tell you, not everyone agreed with my decision.
actually, no one i'm aware of, except of course, my son.

but at the end of the day, that's all that mattered.
congratulations!
