i just read an article on abject poverty.
fifty percent of the world population lives in abject poverty.
that’s a number that should be obscene to any human who has an active brain stem.
the article contends that education is the solution to abject poverty.
unfortunately, when you’re done educating those in abject poverty, you will end up with the same folks in abject poverty except they’ll be smarter.
it strikes me that opportunity has to be there at the end of the day.
opportunity is born from the resources to do things.
if most of the world’s resources are owned or bought by a few wealthy nations, well you can educate until the bovines come home and not a whole lot is going to change.
but i suppose education is as noble an endeavor as any, while we figure out how to overcome the rest of it.
