i have no answers to the slaughter at virginia tech.
however, when i reflect on this terrible tragedy, i am reminded once again that when broken people have access to efficient, human killing tools, i should not be surprised by the possibilities.
yet, the certainty of expectation never tempers the private pain we all feel when the loss is so much and so pointless.
just as troubling, i also know that such senseless death drips daily: a passion crime here, a murder-suicide there, a child abducted somewhere else.
but i fool myself by paying them no mind.
they just drip, drip, drip.
until a pipe bursts, like virginia tech.
and then i act shocked until someone scampers to patch the pipe.

when will i realize we need to rebuild the whole system?
